Ensemble Phoenix Basel

Since over 10 years, Ensemble Phoenix Basel has performed a huge number of very challenging contemporary renowned compositions as well as first performances of works by young composers of our time.
Its primary objective has been to play an integral role in the development of contemporary music and to make it accessible to a broader public.

The city of Basel, with its large number of resident composers is regarded as an important center for contemporary music in and outside of Switzerland, is ideally suited to house an ensemble of this kind. The support of institutional as well as private sponsoring, has made it possible to accomplish musical and theatrical projects (involving commissions for new compositions for large ensemble, live electronics and scenic produtions) not frequently programmed elsewhere due to high technical and organizational demands.

Most of this enormous work has been tracked in audio (sometimes video) recordings.
